Instead of using a subscription model, I’m switching to a credits system. My main cost is SMS, and it’s also a key feature of booking software (for reminders and more). So the entire software becomes free to use — they only pay when they send SMS, and they can even turn them off if they want (though 90% keep them on).
This is also a gold mine for leads for my shampoo brand, since groomers can use the app for free and I get their contact information immediately. Plus, I no longer need to manage who deserves free subscriptions — I can simply give X$ of SMS credits when they buy X$ of shampoo.
I’ll be the first pet grooming software that is fully usage-based, charging 10 cents CAD per SMS with no limits on staff or bookings. Now I’ll see if using software to sell shampoo ends up being a winning strategy.
